Frequently Asked Questions
Is it free to split PDF files on FileSwift?
Yes — FileSwift provides a completely free PDF split tool that requires no account registration, email signup, or credit card details. Anonymous users can perform up to 5 splits per day and free account holders get 5 splits per day. For professionals splitting high volumes of documents, our Pro plan at £9/month provides unlimited daily splits with higher file size limits. Business users get a 500MB limit for enterprise-scale document workflows. All splitting is performed in a secure, encrypted cloud environment and your files are permanently deleted immediately after you download the result.
How does splitting a PDF into individual pages work?
When you choose 'Split into individual pages', FileSwift takes your multi-page PDF and creates a separate, new PDF file for every single page in the document. For example, if you upload a 10-page document, you will receive 10 individual PDF files. To make this easy to download and manage, all the newly created files are instantly packaged into a single ZIP archive for you to download with one click.
How do custom page ranges work?
Custom page ranges let you extract specific sections from a larger PDF. You can define multiple ranges using commas, like '1-3, 4-6, 7-10'. For each range you define, FileSwift will create a separate PDF file containing only those pages. You can also specify single pages, for example '1, 3, 5' will create three separate files containing just page 1, page 3, and page 5. All generated files are delivered in a single ZIP archive.
What is the maximum file size for splitting a PDF?
Free and anonymous users can split PDF files up to 10MB in size. For larger files such as high-resolution brochures, architectural drawings, or lengthy technical manuals, our Pro plan at £9/month increases the limit to 100MB per file. Business users get a 500MB per-file limit for the most demanding enterprise document workflows. These limits apply to the original file you upload.
Will splitting affect the quality of my PDF?
No — FileSwift splits PDFs without re-encoding, recompressing, or modifying any content. Every page is extracted exactly as-is into the split output. Fonts, images, vector graphics, hyperlinks, bookmarks, and formatting are all fully preserved. The split PDFs are byte-for-byte identical in content quality to the original source file. The only change is that the document has been divided based on your instructions.
Are my PDF files kept private and secure?
Yes — your privacy and document security are our highest priorities. Every file you upload to FileSwift is transmitted over an encrypted HTTPS connection. All split processing happens in an isolated, secure cloud environment using in-memory processing — your files are never written to disk. Most importantly, your files are permanently and irreversibly deleted from our servers immediately after you download the split result. We never store, analyse, or share your documents.
Can I split password-protected PDFs?
Password-protected PDFs are not currently supported by the FileSwift split tool. If you try to split a password-protected file, the tool will return an error. To split a protected PDF, first remove the password protection using a PDF password removal tool, then upload the unlocked file to FileSwift. Support for unlocking and splitting password-protected PDFs at upload time is planned for a future update.
